Good morning from snowy Colorado.
The novelty of being home all the time has worn off. My resolve to seize the days, do creative things, and make the most of the situation has faded. I’m tired of being home. And I LOVE to be home! I’m just feeling a little (a lot) weary. And it’s feeling hard to not know when the light will come at the end of the tunnel. If you’re feeling similarly, I just want you to know you’re not alone. This is hard.
Our family loves to have people in our home. It’s not uncommon for us to have other people over a few times a week. We love to feed people, encourage people, have meaningful conversations, offer a safe place to laugh, cry, unwind, talk, share, and learn. The Lord gave our family the gift of hospitality, and we do our best to use that gift to bless the people in our lives. There are plenty of things we are not good at, but we are pretty good at having people over. And I miss it so much.
I’ve been reflecting on the spiritual gifts, and wondering about how we might continue to use our gifts during this season. Have you thought much about what your spiritual gifts might be?
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 tells us, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”
I’d encourage you to spend some time reading Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 over the weekend. What unique gifts has God given you in order to be a blessing to the church, and to bring honor to His name? How are you able to use your gifts to bless and encourage people during this unique time in history?
I’m eager to ask God to show me a creative way to continue to extend hospitality to people during this isolating time. That’s what I will be praying about this weekend. Will you join me in asking for a freshness of spirit this weekend? For a renewed purpose? For a creative way to use our gifts? I’m hopeful and excited to see what ideas he might give us if we open ourselves to his guidance and willingly submit ourselves to his plan during this time. God is not stagnant! He still moves and works and delights in blessing His people.
With anticipation,
Kate
