Bearing Light

Good morning, friends.
We have been given another day. How will we spend these waking hours? Both of my girls have names that mean ‘light’. (Maren’s middle name, Eleanor, and Elin) Light is warm. It’s permeating. It’s hopeful. It’s illuminating. It draws people near. It chases away the darkness. I love the imagery of light woven throughout scripture. I frequently pray the words of Ephesians 5:8-10 over my kids.

…for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.

In the Lord, we are light! And the fruit of our light is seen in what is good, right and true. I’m spending a little extra time this morning meditating on this. Am I exhibiting goodness, righteousness, and truth in my life? Am I a bearer of light in the darkness?

Brett and I got married just 3 days before Christmas. In the dim candlelight of the church, before the wedding party had even walked down the aisle, a soloist sang this song.

All Is Well

All is well
All is well
Angels and men rejoice
For tonight darkness fell
Into the dawn of love’s light
Sing A-le
Sing Alleluia

All is well
All is well
Let there be peace on earth
Christ is come go and tell
That He is in the manger
Sing A-le
Sing Alleluia

All is well
All is well
Lift up your voice and sing
Born is now Emmanuel
Born is our Lord and Savior
Sing Alleluia
Sing Alleluia
All is well

I love the words of that first verse. For tonight darkness fell into the dawn of love’s light. If you’ve ever experienced a candlelit Christmas Eve service, you can recall the feeling of comfort that accompanies the dancing warmth of the flickering candles. The light brings peace. Hope. Anticipation of what’s to come with the dawn. Let’s be light-bearers today, friends. Let’s be people who chase away the darkness.
Warmly,
Kate
