Good morning, friends.
We’ve made it to another Friday. Hallelujah! I, for one, am celebrating the arrival of a weekend. It’s been a long week, hasn’t it? This morning, I woke up with these words on my mind…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
I’d imagine most of us are feeling weary and burdened. These past couple weeks have been exceptionally heavy, and I’m not sure there’s a person who hasn’t been impacted in some way by COVID19 itself or the subsequent shut-downs and quarantines. It’s all feeling like a bit much, isn’t it? And it’s getting harder to imagine how things might ever get back to normal. I know Brett and I have had several conversations about the merits of what we’re learning during a forced time of simplified living. We’ve definitely experienced a swift reordering of priorities. I pray often for Jesus to pour out his redemptive love during this season. For him to bring beauty from ashes, and hope from places of despair.
And this is my prayer over us this weekend. Friends, let’s trade our weariness and our burdens for rest this weekend. Maybe start your Saturday morning with a walk outside or a phone call to a friend instead of waking up to the news or a Facebook scroll. Consider leaving your phone off for part of the day while you read a book, play a game, or organize some old photographs. ‘Go’ to church! If you don’t have a church service available to watch online, let me know. We’re looking forward to homemade waffles for breakfast tomorrow morning and a video date with some friends tomorrow night after the kids to go to bed. Write a letter! My kids have been sending mail off to friends and family every day. I’m grateful we serve a God who welcomes the trade of our burdens for His rest. I’m looking forward to receiving this much needed gift, and I hope you will join me.
With hope,
Kate
