Hello, friends.
This morning (almost afternoon!) I want to share just a few thoughts from Colossians 3. I’ve had some feelings of fear and anxiety creep in the past day or so, and these reminders have helped me focus on where my hope comes from.
Verse 3 encourages us to ‘Set our minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.’ The things on earth are feeling exceptionally noisy right now. If we’re not careful, they will swiftly eclipse our thoughts of things that are eternal. If you’re anything like me, having a mind that’s set on earthly things brings some pretty hefty despair. I’m grateful for this gentle reminder the Lord gave me this morning to shift my gaze back to Him.
As we read ahead to verses 12-14, we find a list of things to embrace as God’s chosen ones. We’re encouraged to put on compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness and love. I long for our days to be seasoned with these things, don’t you?
Verse 15 instructs us to ‘let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.’ I’m looking forward to meditating on these words today. Christ offers us a supernatural peace that transcends our circumstances. I will continue to welcome the peace of Christ into every corner of my mind and heart, and I hope you will do the same. The end of this verse calls us to thankfulness. Again, it’s very easy to focus on all of the hard things happening right now. It takes little to no effort to find bad news these days. I wonder what would happen if more of us were resolved to trade a spirit of fear for one of thankfulness? Without fail, thankfulness draws my attention back towards Jesus. Thankfulness reminds me of his power and provision. It recenters me. Thankfulness connects us to the people we love. Thankfulness tethers us to Jesus.
Warmly,
Kate
